This is the top brand for Herdade do Arrepiado Velho, a producer from the Alentejo, nearby Portalegre.
Dark purple in the glass, the nose is very intense and fruit-forward, showing lots of sweet black berries along with strong toast and coffee impressions, maybe with some spices hanging around in the background.
To the palate, this is a full-bodied wine with a lot of structure. The tannins here are still hard but they do not overwhelm the taste. Strong oak notes still mark the taste, but there's also a lot of black sweet fruit to hang to. Finishes long leaving impressions of black fruit again.
I think this needs some more years in the bottle before reaching its peak. Right now, it's an enjoyable wine but I found the tannins and oak a bit too strong - specially in the mouth. But it sure has potential.
