Although I'm not usually impressed by Touriga Nacional varietals, this one was a really good experience, confirming once again that the north of Portugal is the ideal terroir for this grape.
Very dark in the glass, the nose starts off with some mint impressions, leather and a faint floral impression. Some acid wild berries also appear. As time goes by, pleasant, elegant toast, oaky notes make their entrance. Given enough time, this reveals an amazingly pleasant floral nose, violets and rock roses along with some mint filling the nose.
Starting in a soft fashion in the mouth, it has an elegant, very tuned body with a remarkable acidity. Revealing some leather notes throughout the taste, this is a lesson in elegance and balance, everything falling into place in the right amount. Very persistent.
A very worthwhile Touriga that will need to be decanted for an hour or two in order to reveal its full potential.
