Region: Alentejo
Country: Portugal
The people at Adega de Borba have a long established track record of releasing good Alentejo wines at a reasonable price.
This wine, a release from 2006 that sells for about 7€ in wineshops, is another example.
Garnet in color, the nose is well balanced and poised. Red fruit (sour cherries came to mind) and some sweeter jam at first, followed closely by spicier elements (cocoa comes to mind at some point).
Of average structure, it's a rounded, soft wine. Good acidity and tamed tannins, it's filled by black berries impressions along with a discreet oak touch, which is happy to linger in the background.
Overall, a good Alentejo, specially for meals, for a reasonable price.
