Pombal do Vesúvio 2007

16.5 / 20
Producer: Quinta do Vesúvio
Region: Douro
Country: Portugal

Really dark purple on the glass, this wine is the second brand for table wines from Quinta do Vesúvio.

Still feeling very young, the bouquet has a lot of dark ripe fruits, some spices and a strong mineral background, shale maybe? Very concentrated and complex, yet inviting.

Big and full on the palate, with lots of black fruits and some oak, already quite nicely integrated. A very nice structure, backed by some solid tannins, and some lingering and persistent mineral notes that keep it very interesting. The finish is long and dry, showing lots of black fruits and a marked acidity.

Really good red from the Douro and, at around 15€, a great value. Although it is already quite pleasurable to drink, it will still grow for some years, so keep a couple of bottles.
