Três Bagos Sauvignon Blanc 2008

15.0 / 20
Producer: Lavradores da Feitoria
Region: Douro
Country: Portugal

I have tasted previous vintages of this wine and was usually pretty satisfied with it - a fresh Sauvignon from the Douro nicely made and pleasurable to drink.

Tasting the 2008 vintage some days ago, the results were not as nice as usual. The aromas started things nicely, centering in the expected vegetable notes and a strong passion fruit scent that ended up by hiding any other subtleties the bouquet might have to offer.

In the mouth, it's a very fruit-forward wine, centered again in the passion fruit. The issue here was that I felt there wasn't enough acidity or structure to support the strong, sweeter fruit. This made the wine a bit tiring and monotonous, sometimes almost feeling like a passion fruit juice.

Are three years too much to wait for this? It certainly felt somewhat tired. Would seriously consider drinking up any bottles you might have.
