Region: Douro
Country: Portugal
Ruby to the eye, this red from the Douro has a quite hidden, subdued nose where red fruits start by being the main note, with a more flowery side on the background. Later on, the flowers come a bit forward and, a good deal later, there's also a vegetable side - unusual for a Douro.
Nice, medium-full body still showing lots of oak, this has a balanced acidity and hard, if delicate, tannins that, along with the oak, overshadow the concentrated fruit that is to be felt on the background. Also feeling very closed on the palate, this later opens up to some violets and rockroses.
Overall, this Douro felt very closed. Maybe if decanted for a few hours, or better yet, left to rest for a couple of years, this will offer much more.
