One of the latest releases for this top brand from Quinta dos Avidagos (I'm not sure 2008 or 2008 have been released), this is an imposing and intense Douro.
Dark ruby and looking full of life, it has an intense, strong and young bouquet, where notes of sweet red and black fruits mingle with chocolate and oak in a background of spices. Very young and very intense, this will benefit from some decanting time before tasting.
Also very fruit forward, at this moment, in the mouth, hinting at red berries and mulberries, it has some quite hard tannins that give it a very nice, complex structure. Although hard, the tannins do not shadow both the intense fruit and the strong oak/chocolate notes that still mark the wine at this stage. A beautiful dry, persistent ending wraps up the taste.
One to keep for a few years, as I'm sure this will age gracefully and be even more worthwhile two or three years down the road.
Pair it with strong meat dishes at this time. Would probably go very well with stews involving cured meats or hunt.
