Country: Portugal
A personal favorite white from the Douro for some time now, this is made exclusively with Rabigato grapes from old vines, rabigato being one of the endemic grape types of the Douro, usually used for white wine production. Some of the best whites from the Douro use this particular grape.
This one starts off with some green apples in the aroma, a dash of flowers and maybe a faint oaky, buttery impression in the background. Very delicate and subtle.
The oak gave it structure, giving it some weight although this is far from being an heavy wine, since there's a strong, fresh, citrus-like acidity permeating the whole taste. Just enough fruit notes make this an interesting taste, exquisitely balanced between weight and acidity.
Paired rather well with a porcini risotto, with the wine's heavier side complementing the risotto while its freshness and acidity acted as a counterpoint to the buttery side of the dish.
